It took him almost 50 years in the making, but legendary Canadian fisherman Darryl (Cronzy) Choronzey has finally refined the recipe for preparing fish in the perfect breading and batter mix.
Cronzy’s preference for tasty fish fillets fresh from a frying pan go back more than 50 years. He never forgot that first fishing trip with dad. The small, close to home lake they fished was pristine. The sunfish and bluegill were anxious to take to the hook. Most important the deep fried fillets prepared by dad were scrumptious to the youngster. His love for fishing was established and his love for a meal of fried, fresh fish went hand in hand with the new sport he was introduced to that summer afternoon.
Over the decades Cronzy built a reputation first as an outdoor reporter, then became the publisher/editor of his own Ontario Fisherman Magazine and finally the host of the ever popular cross-Canada Going Fishing television series. Also over the years, Cronzy has not only gained a reputation as a fisherman and angling educator, but also a conservationist when it came to protecting and improving Canadian fish stocks. In April 2002, Cronzy was awarded the Fisheries and Oceans’ Canadian Recreational Fisheries Award in acknowledgement of his lifetime dedication to the sport of fishing here in Canada.
But over the years Cronzy has been known as much or more for his shore lunches and love of those tasty fried fillets of fish that he regularly conjures up on each and every episode of his Going Fishing television series. Fishing from one end of Canada to the other and learning the secrets from his native friends, northern wilderness guides, outfitters and others who have shared a campfire with him, Cronzy finally believes he has created the ultimate in a coating mix that acts both as breading or batter mix.
The result is Darryl Cronzy’s Canadian Fisherman’s Breading and Batter Mix. Cronzy is confident you will love his ‘special’ creation of secret spices that can be served up beside a wilderness stream, in your backyard at the barbecue or in the kitchen of your home.
Remember again, that this special creation is almost 50 years in the making. Easy to prepare, it’s important to note that eggs and milk have already been included in the handy re-sealable zip-lock package. Just add water, a little ginger ale, soda water or a healthy portion of your favourite beer or ale and you’re ready to get cooking and enjoying a feast for a king or a queen.
